How to find a summer set design job for a high school student?

During the summer I would like to work backstage at a set design type job. Without any direct connections how can I find a job like such preferably with some pay? I am definitely not thinking of upscale set designs such as Broadway plays but maybe summer theater camps that need set work done. Do such summer jobs even exist? I hope. I am interested in design, mostly interior. Any suggestions of interesting job or intern type of things I can do during the summer? I am 15 years old and live outside of NYC.

1. If there is a community theater in your area, volunteer there. Or your local community college. You may not get paid, but if you do that this summer, you can put something on a resume and maybe get paid next summer.
