What is the actual meaning of networking when referred to in myspace during profile setup?

My question is concerning a possible hidden meaning when you say networking. Not the text book definition of the term.

1. Networking is when you meet people through people. This was usually associated with the work world. Example: You would network in college, and then it usually payed off when you began to work. A person you met through networking gets you into a nice job, instead of starting out of the bottom.
